The K-12 Global Fellowship Program is organized by the Area Studies Centers of The Ohio State University's Office of International Affairs. The program's aim is to connect teachers from across the state of Ohio in a year-long series of discussion group workshops that focus on contemporary issues from a global perspective. The workshops will take place on Saturdays throughout the academic year from 10AM-12PM on the main campus of OSU with each workshop focusing on a particular region: East Asia, Eastern Europe/Eurasia, Latin America or the Middle East. Through the series of workshops, teachers will increase their knowledge of the global dimension of salient issues affecting the world in order to prepare them to lead discussions about these issues back in the classroom with their students. Workshops will be limited to 15-20 pre- and in-service teachers. Two weeks prior to each session, registered participants will be provided with a reading to prepare in advance. Then each session will include a 60-90 minute lecture by a guest expert followed by 30-60 minutes of group discussion. As much as possible, participants will also be provided with resources and tools to use in their classrooms. Participating teachers will receive a paid parking token and a contact hour certificate for each session that they attend.
