ScarletCanvas Language Courses

As a part of our mission as a Title VI National Resource Center (NRC) the Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES) is pleased to have partnered with The Ohio State University's ScarletCanvas platform to create a series of asynchronous, self-paced introductory language and culture courses for Bosnian-Croation-Serbian (BCS), Polish, and Romanian. 

Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian (BCS) on the Ground

  • Cost: $250
  • Expected hours needed to complete course: 25 approx.
  • Time limit: 180 days

Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian (BCS) on the Ground was developed in conjunction with SEELC faculty member Matthew Boyd, the instructional design team at Ohio State’s Office of Distance Education and the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures and was funded in part by CSEEES's U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant. This asynchronous, self-paced introductory language and culture course is expected to take approximately 25 hours to complete. Through a variety of interactive videos, presentations, and activities, you will learn skills that will help you to engage with people and navigate situations in the countries where BCS is spoken. Throughout this course, you will learn and apply essential expressions and vocabulary of the target language to real-world situations, developing your reading, listening, and speaking skills along the way. You will also have the opportunity to grow your understanding and awareness of cultural differences between BCS-speaking countries and the United States, as you explore topics of cultural importance within each module.

Polish on the Ground

  • Cost: $250
  • Expected hours needed to complete course: 25 approx.
  • Time limit: 180 days

Polish on the Ground was developed in conjunction with SEELC faculty member Diana Sacilowski, the instructional design team at Ohio State’s Office of Distance Education and the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures and was funded in part by CSEEES's U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant. This is an asynchronous, self-paced introductory language and culture course, expected to take approximately 25 hours to complete. Through a variety of interactive videos, presentations, and activities, you will learn skills that will help you to engage with people from and navigate situations in the areas where Polish is spoken. Throughout this course, you will learn and apply essential expressions and vocabulary of the target language to real-world situations, developing your reading, listening, and speaking skills along the way. You will also have the opportunity to grow your understanding and awareness of cultural differences and similarities between Poland and the United States, as you explore topics of cultural importance within each module.

Romanian on the Ground

  • Time limit: 180 days

Romanian on the Ground was developed in conjunction with SEELC faculty members Andrei Cretu and Adela Lechintan-Siefer, the instructional design team at Ohio State’s Office of Distance Education and the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures and was funded in part by CSEEES's U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant. This asynchronous, self-paced introductory language and culture course is expected to take approximately 25 hours to complete. Through a variety of interactive videos, presentations, and activities, you will learn skills that will help you to engage with people from and navigate situations in the areas where Romanian is spoken.
