2019-11-04 15:15:00 2019-11-04 16:15:00 “Prometheus in Russia: From Revolutionary to Superhero” CSEES Graduate Student Lecture by Ekaterina But The Center for Slavic and East European Studies (CSEES) is pleased to announce that Ekaterina But (PhD candidate, Department of Classics) will present the 2019 Autumn Semester Graduate Student Lecture.In this lecture, Ekaterina will explore how the image of Prometheus, one of the Titans from Ancient Greek mythology and literature, was used in performance art and film in Russia before and after the Revolution. She will analyze works by Russian and Ukrainian artists, specifically Kavaleridze, Nemirovich-Danchenko, Skriabin, Smishliaev, Snezhko-Blotskaya, and Stanislavsky, which focus on the Promethean image in cultural, political, and ideological contexts. In her lecture, she will demonstrate how the appearance and transformation of the image of the Greek Titan correlates to and at the same time reflects the changing ideology and the cultural climate of Russia throughout the twentieth century.This event will also be live-streamed on Facebook for anyone who is unable to attend in person.
