October 26, 2015
12:30 pm - 2:00 pm
Mershon Center for International Security Studies

Over the past months, the world has witnessed dramatic scenes of desperate people trying to immigrate to Europe. The governments and people of Europe have responded in different ways, with some welcoming the refugees and offering help, while others, using protectionist tactics, have focused on perceived cultural differences and economic concerns. This panel will address the current crisis in terms of historical precedent and the impact of the migration on human rights and human trafficking, as well as contrast the representation of the crisis by U.S. and Eastern European media. The roundtable discussion will be led by Dr. Theodora Dragostinova, Dr. Yana Hashamova, and Dr. Jessie Labov. Lunch will be provided. The co-sponsors for this event are the Department of History, Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures, and the Mershon Center for International Security Studies Please RSVP to csees@osu.edu by Wednesday, October 21st.
