Join CSEEES for our annual Graduate Choice Speaker Lecture. Each year CSEEES' MA students are invited to select a speaker and/or topic of their choice to add to CSEEES' lecture series. This year we will be joined by Ellen Elias-Bursać who will discuss how one becomes a translator, the sorts of jobs translators do, working with editors and publishers, working as a translator during wartime, and more.

About the Speaker

Ellen Elias-Bursać translates fiction and non-fiction from Bosnian, Croatian, and Serbian. ALTA's National Translation Award was given to her translation of Albahari's novel Götz and Meyer in 2006. She worked for six years at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugloslavia in the English translation unit and wrote a book about the ways translation and interpreting shaped those trials. She was given the Mary Zirin Prize by the Association of Women in Slavic Studies in 2015 for her work as a scholar and translator. She is currently interim president of the American Literary Translators Association.
