Armed Conflicts and Im/mobility Week Events Postponed

Due to a medical emergency with the keynote presenter Gillian Triggs the events that were previously scheduled for Thursday, October 17 as a part of the Armed Conflicts and Im/mobility Week have been postponed. We anticipate that these events will be rescheduled for February 2025, so please check the Armed Conflicts and Im/mobility webpage as well as our Events page for updates. 

The Reframing Refuge(e) film festival will still take place today Monday, October 14. Seating begins at 2:45 PM at Gateway Film Center, Screening Room 2. There is no screening fee, but attendees are asked to pick up a ticket from the counter. Please sure the schedule below for more information on today's event.

SCHEDULE:

The three films/videos featured in this edition of the event focus on themes of mobility/immobility of people living within conflict/heavily militarized zones, or while seeking asylum.

  • 2:45 - Seating Begins
  • 3:00 - The Retreat (Artist: Gelare Khoshgozaran, Dur: 22 min)
    • The film follows a group of people experiencing exile from different parts of the world as they share their experiences and form bonds
  • 3:25: Roqaia (Director: Diana Saqib Jamal, Dur: 11 min)
    • After surviving a suicide bomb attack in Kabul, 12-year-old Roqaia finds herself in the middle of a media frenzy as she deals with her trauma all by herself. 
  • 3.40: I Am Not The River Jhelum (Director: Prabhash Chandra, Dur: 95 min)
    • The film shows glimpses of the life of its young protagonist Afeefa living in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
  • 5.15: Q&A with Prabhash Chandra and Gelare Khoshgozaran.
