The Ohio State University's ScarletCanvas and CSEEES announce the availability of an asynchronous, self-paced introductory language and culture course for Bosnian-Croatian-Serbian. BCS On the Ground was developed in conjunction with SEELC faculty member Matthew Boyd, the instructional design team at Ohio State’s Office of Distance Education and the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures and was funded in part by CSEEES's U.S. Department of Education Title VI grant. The course offers members of the public and interested students from within and outside of Ohio State the opportunity to learn basic language and culture skills. The course should take approximately 25 hours to complete. Through a variety of interactive tools and activities, students will learn skills that help engage with people and navigate situations in the countries where BCS is spoken, including reading, listening, and speaking skills. The course highlights an awareness of cultural differences between BCS-speaking countries and the U.S. and offers the chance to explore topics of cultural importance within each learning module. To view further details or sign up for the course, visit BCS On the Ground’s page in ScarletCanvas’ online course catalog. Catalan, Polish and Romanian courses are to follow later this term.
