Founded in 1965 in the midst of the Cold War, the Center for Slavic and East European Studies is marking its 50th anniversary this academic year. Dr. George Kalbouss, professor emeritus from Ohio State, will discuss in this special luncheon lecture the history of the field of Slavic studies, how it has changed over the decades, and why it is still important today. The talk will explore how the United States' foreign policy towards the Soviet Union was important to the field's development in its early decades and how this has impacted its development in the succeeding years.
Conference panels will break for the lunch recess at 12:15PM. The luncheon lecture will start promptly at 12:30PM. Those who wish to attend the luncheon lecture can opt to purchase a boxed lunch for $10 in advance. Alternatively, a variety of quick dining options that offer take out meals are available within a few minutes walk from the conference venue.
Please place your lunch reservation by Monday, April 4th.
