Congratulations to CSEEES Master’s Candidate Nancy Pellegrino: 2023-2024 Fulbright Recipient

Nancy Pellegrino

Master’s Candidate at the Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES) Nancy Pellegrino has received a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship (ETA) for the 2023-2024 academic year. She will be conducting her ETA in Romania starting in October and ending in June. Nancy is originally from Columbus, and she graduated from Miami University with a bachelor’s degree in Diplomacy and Global Studies and Russian and East European Studies. She is currently a second-year graduate student at CSEEES and she expects to graduate this summer. She has been studying the Romanian language for about two years and she is writing her graduate thesis on the human trafficking crisis in Romania.

Nancy has always been interested in studying abroad and spending time in a different country, so she was thrilled when she found out that she was awarded the Fulbright ETA. She is looking forward to the opportunity to practice her language skills and immerse herself in a new culture. Fulbright offers their Teaching Assistants the freedom to explore a supplementary project of their choosing, and she is planning to volunteer with local and regional anti-trafficking organizations and interview members of these associations. Nancy is thankful for the chance to combine her love of language and culture with her research interests and her drive for activism.

If you would like to hear more about Nancy's research, join us on Tuesday, April 11 at 12:30 PM in Enarson 100 for our spring 2023 Graduate Student Lecture. This semester's lecture will be given by Nancy and is entitled "The Risks and Realities for the Romanian Roma Population in the Context of Human Trafficking."
