Congratulations to Max Parker, Spring 2021 Graduate!

Max Parker

What first piqued you interest in Eastern Europe?

I first became interested in Eastern Europe when I developed an interest in the Russian language. When I learned that Russian is similar to many other languages spoken in Eastern Europe, that paved the way for me to learn more about the region.

What became the focus of your studies as you progressed in our MA program?

I focused on Central Asia and Belarus as part of my larger interest in the former USSR.

What are your future plans?

COVID-19 has complicated much of my future plans, but I would be interested in either government work or in the private sector, focusing on risk analysis.

What, as you exit, was your impression of our MA program?

COVID-19 had profoundly affected my graduate school experience, but aside from this I mostly enjoyed my studies.

Do you have any advice for current/future CSEES grads?

Try taking a class or two outside of the CSEES's focus. It will help broaden your horizons.

Just for fun: A random fact about yourself!

I presented a PowerPoint to the Uzbek ambassador to the United States in Uzbek!
