CSEEES Creates New “Passport to Eastern Europe and Eurasia” for K-14 Online Modules
The Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies (CSEEES) at Ohio State has introduced a new classroom resource designed to help K-14 educators bring global learning to life. The Passport to Eastern Europe and Eurasia is a student‑friendly activity booklet that accompanies our introductory online modules on Poland, Ukraine, Albania, Uzbekistan, and Siberia, giving teachers a ready‑to‑use tool for exploring the region’s cultures, histories, and geographies.
The booklet opens with a biographical “passport” page and regional map to orient students before they begin their journey. Each country or region featured in the modules includes a prefilled page with short comprehension questions and space for students to record something new they learned. Teachers who want to expand beyond the five modules can use the blank country pages to incorporate their own lessons or materials from their curriculum or our National Resource Center partners.
Educators can use the Passport in a variety of ways—as a structured in‑class activity, a scavenger hunt, a homework assignment, or a recurring reflection tool as students move through the modules. For classrooms looking to deepen hands‑on engagement, the Passport pairs well with CSEEES’ Culture Boxes, which include realia such as foreign currency, toys, crafts, maps, posters, clothing items, and books. Culture Boxes are currently available for Poland and Uzbekistan, with plans to expand the collection as additional materials become available.
The Passport is available as a ready‑to‑print PDF, and each sheet can be folded into two student booklets. A companion Passport Guide is also available, offering basic instructions for classroom use, an answer key, and optional printable stamps.
