The Center for Slavic and East European Studies is excited to announce that it has awarded Professors Ashley Bigham and Morgan Liu two curriculum development grants for the 2019-20 academic year. In summer 2020, Professor Bigham, an assistant professor in the Knowlton School of Architecture, will design a new course “Slavic and East European Architecture.” During the summer, she will travel to Ukraine and Russia to explore and research firsthand many famous examples of Slavic and Russian architecture. The course will be open to both undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to students from outside the School of Architecture, and will help to expand the regional content of architecture course offerings. Professor Morgan Liu, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, will create a new course in summer 2020 entitled “Oligarchs, Penthouses, and Yachts: The Global Lives & Dealings of Superrich Eurasians” that will also be open to both undergraduate and graduate students. Through this course, students will learn about social theories of elites, class, consumption, cosmopolitanism, and transnationalism from anthropology, geography, and sociology perspectives.
