Bailee Wolfe

2022-2023 Undergraduate FLAS Fellow for Russian

Why did you choose to study this language?

In my second year of high school I saw Russian writing on a figure skating program that I was watching, and I was fascinated by the way that the letters looked. I chose to self-study the Russian alphabet that year, and when I transferred to the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics, and Humanities, I was thrilled to find out that they offered Russian courses. From that point I fell in love with the language and culture, mostly due to my teacher’s enthusiasm and commitment to fostering a positive language learning environment. This experience motivated me to continue studying Russian at Ohio State.

What are your future career plans?

Currently, I am planning to apply for graduate school in the next year. I also hope to combine my interests in science and technology with my Russian skills to do technical translation work.
