K-12 Russian Olympiada

Walnut Hills High School Russian Olympiada Competitorswith Dr. Stepanova

On Saturday, March 4, the Department for Slavic and Eastern European Languages and Cultures (DSEELC) and the Center for Slavic and East European Studies (CSEES) hosted the annual K-12 Russian Olympiada in Mendenhall Laboratory at The Ohio State University. The competitors came from four schools across Ohio, including: Columbus North International School, Walnut Hills High School, Start High School and Russian Education Center Bookvarel. The participants competed in one of five different Russian language levels; each level had three commissions to complete and judges from DSEELC and CSEES evaluated the students and marked their scores. After the competition wrapped up, Dr. Yana Hashamova gave a lunchtime lecture about the importance of studying foreign language and encouraged the students to continue their study of Russian through the university level.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the event and thank you to the judges who dedicated their Saturday to volunteering at the event.
