Welcome, Dr. Aleksandra Urzędowska!
The Center for Slavic, East European and Eurasian Studies is pleased to welcome Dr. Aleksandra Urzędowska as the Slavic Fulbright Scholar for the spring 2026 semester. Dr. Urzędowska is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Visual Communication at the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Kraków, Poland. Her academic background combines Polish studies and journalism, which she brings together in her research on media linguistics. She focuses on how language functions in digital media environments, including social media, online journalism, and comment sections—spaces she views as dynamic arenas for negotiating emotions, opinions, and identities.
Dr. Urzędowska’s research interests include digital reportage as a hybrid, multimodal genre and the “commentosphere,” the communicative space created by user comments around media content. She has led international research projects funded by NAWA and has extensive experience collaborating across Europe through Erasmus exchanges. Her work explores digital media communication, user participation, and commenting practices.
At Ohio State, Dr. Urzędowska will teach POLISH–INTSTDS 5196: Genres of Digital Media – Polish and European Perspectives, a course examining journalistic genres in the digital era from Polish, European, and American viewpoints. Students will analyze social media, user-generated content, media ethics, and emerging storytelling forms such as digital reportage and immersive narratives. Her teaching style is open, interactive, and designed to spark lively discussion.
Outside of academia, Dr. Urzędowska enjoys live music, long walks, and growing avocado plants, a hobby that reflects her appreciation for things that grow slowly but steadily.
Please join us in welcoming Dr. Urzędowska to Ohio State!
