One of the primary missions of CSEES is to educate experts on Eastern Europe and Eurasia to ensure a steady stream of young professionals with the knowledge of this region and its languages for employment in the government, non-profit and private sectors. To fulfill this mission, the center developed a new Mid-Career Professional Track for foreign area officers and other professionals that have significant work experience in the region already and advanced language skills.
The new MA track is designed to be completed in 12 months or three semesters with 30 credit hours of area studies coursework. Applicants will have to demonstrate their work in the region and their level of language competence. The new track has been designed in response to the U.S. Armed Forces’ growing need for foreign area officers. Foreign area officers are commissioned officers in one of the four branches of the U.S. Armed Forces and must complete an advanced area studies degree as part of their training in addition to intensive language training and work assignments within their designated region. Applications are now being accepted for matriculation starting in spring 2015.
