CSEES has organized numerous activities for 2014-18 with community colleges and minority-serving institutions with the goal of assisting these institutions in creating more courses with East European and Eurasian content. Working with colleagues at Central New Mexico Community College, Howard University (Washington D.C.), Lakeland Community College (Cleveland area) and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks Community and Technical College, CSEES will support lectures and class presentations. Additionally, the Center will provide funds for faculty at Central New Mexico Community College, Howard University and University of Alaska-Fairbanks Community and Technical College for professional development.
In a similar vein, CSEES and five other Russian/East European National Resource Centers will organize an annual competition to award professional development stipends to faculty at community colleges and minority-serving institutions that will be open to all regular, part-time and adjunct faculty across the country. Each year, CSEES will fund one or two faculty members to attend the International Conference on Conflict Resolution Education to participate in workshops and lectures on Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Lastly, CSEES will organize a workshop with faculty from Bluegrass Community and Technical College in spring 2016 and 2017 that will cover topics such as international security, human rights and the environment. Through these activities, CSEES aims to have a significant impact on the broadening of access to East European and Eurasian content on a national level.
